Five-time champion at the Australian Open Serena Williams has met strong resistance from Maria Kirilenko and beat her with 6:2, 6:0 only for 57 minutes. Thus the 31-year-old American secured participation in quarter finals of the season's first Grand Slam. In the next round Williams will face her young compatriot Sloane Stephens.
Serena, who won the Australian Open in the seasons 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010, have not lost a set and has given her opponents so far only seven games.
Williams first met the 12 years younger than her Stevens earlier this month at a tournament in Brisbane and beat her with 6:4, 6:3.
Serena upcoming opponent for the first time in her career to qualify for the quarter finals of a Grand Slam, after winning in three sets over Bojana Jovanovski.
19-year-old Stevens beat the Serb with 6:1, 3:6, 7:5 in a match that lasted 1 hour and 53 minutes. In the first part of the Austrelian Open in 2012 the talented tennis player reached the second round.
