ATP president Brad Dryuet said he retired from his post after he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (motor neuron disease).

The 54 years old Australian said he will continue as President and CEO of ATP until a replacement is appointed.

"It was an honor to work as CEO and president of ATP. Organization in which I am more than 35 years, since I was a professional tennis player. The organization is very deep in my heart, and take this decision with sadness, but it is imperative because of my health problems, "said Dryuet in a statement.

The news shook the tennis world as Roger Federer, described it as "very sad news".

"Brad is a very close friend of mine and this is very sad news for all of us and all ATP tennis community. He was liked and respected by all, and did an amazing job in tennis over the last 12 months. We are with him and his family at this difficult time, "said Federer.
