The Serbian Novak Djokovic will finish the year as No. 1 in the world tennis rankings, announced by the ATP. The 25 years old Djokovic will overtake the current leader in the ranking Roger Federer on Nov. 5.
This became clear after Federer, who today launched a record 302nd week at the top of the rankings, lost the final in Basel by Juan Martin del Porto (Argentina) yesterday and gave up from the tournament series "Masters" in Paris, where he will not defend the points of the won last year's title.
ATP indicated that the Swiss has no chance to stay in the first place, regardless of the performance of the Serb in Paris and the ATP finals in London next week.
Federer replace Djokovic from the top of the chart on July 9 after the title of "Wimbledon".
Djokovic, for the first time topped the world rankings on July 4, 2011, will finish at No. 1 for a second straight season. Thus he became the first player since Federer with such an achievement. Federer always ended the year as the leader in the ranking of ATP in the period 2004-2007.
