World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) is approaching more closer to finish the year as the leader in the world rankings after beating Angelica Kerber (Germany), with 6:7 (11) 7:6 (2), 6: 4 in match of the red group of the WTA Championship in Istanbul (Turkey).
Azarenka needed a 3:06 hours to beat Kerber in a dramatic match and to launch a successful group. The representative of Belarus needs only one more victory to remain in first place in the rankings.
In the other match, Serena Williams (USA) won against Lee On (China) with 7:6 (2), 6:3.
The white group Maria Sharapova (Russia) win hard over Agnieszka Radwanska (Poland) with 5:7, 7:5, 7:5 for 3:12 hours, and the game ended in the early hours of today. Williams and Sharapova ensured their ranking in the semifinals.
Azarenka saved two match points with 6:5 in the second set against Kerber to reach ultimate success. The German won the first set tiebreak with 13:11, but lost the second tiebreak with 2:7.
World number one served for the match with 5:3 in third set when Kerber again made a breakthrough, but the last game Azarenka broke his back.
