Number 2 in the world Maria Sharapova (Russia) qualified for the second consecutive year in the semifinals of Open de France tennis.
The 25-year Sharapova deal with Seeded 23rd Kaia Kanepi (Estonia) with 6:2, 6:3 for 74 minutes. She placed 21 winning shot and realized seven breaks in the submission of her opponent.
The Russian led early with 3:1, then took three consecutive games, thus ensuring success in the first set. In the second part Sharapova allowed gap of 0:2, but with five consecutive games prejudge the the final outcome of the meeting.
In her second quarterfinal at Roland Garros since 2008 Kanepi won only two of the games, in which served which proved fatal for 26-year Estonian.
Sharapova, who hopes to triumph with the title in Paris to complete her collection of trophies from all four Grand Slam tournaments, will face in the semifinals against Czech girl Petra Kvitova.
The champion from Wimbledon Kvitova qualifies for the first time in her career in the semifinals of Open de France tennis. Kvitova defeat the qualifier from Kazakhstan Yaroslava Shvedova with 3:6, 6:2, 6:4 for almost two hours and reached the semifinals for the third time in the last four Grand Slam tournaments.
Shvedova, which is 142nd in the world rankings, failed to become the first qualifier in the history of the tournament, reached the semifinals. In the decisive third set Shvedova led with 4:2 but Kvitova won the next four consecutive games and reached the final success.
In the other semifinal meet the Italian Sarah Erami and Samantha Stosur of Australia.
