Two-time champion Maria Sharapova (Russia) withdrew because of injury during the quarterfinal match against Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic) of the tennis tournament "Pan Pacific" in Tokyo, with a prize fund 2.05 million dollars. Second-seeded Sharapova badly dislocated his left ankle after completion of service in the eighth game in 3:4 and 40:15. The Russian request consultation with the physiotherapist of the tournament, then decided to terminate its participation in the match. The second-ranked Sharapova was looking for revenge for losses from Kvitova finale of "Wimbledon" in June. The match went equally as fifth-seeded Czech woman saved only opportunity to break in the meeting to the denial of her rival So Kvitova will play No. 4 Vera Zvonareva of Russia in the semifinals.
