Djokovic record fifth title at Masters Series in one season15-08-2011 |
Novak Djokovic continues his phenomenal performance this season, having won the Masters Series tournament in Montreal. In the final Serb beat American Mardy Fish 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
So Djokovic now has a record five titles of the Masters Series tournaments won in one season and continued his unique series of 53 wins and only one loss this year. The Serb is the first player to win the ATP tournament in his debut as No. 1 in the world after Pete Sampras in 1993.
"I am honored to be part of the history of sport that you love and play. I'm still only 24 years and still have a great desire to win tournaments," said Djokovic.
Mardy Fish, who participated in a third consecutive final, do everything in their power to oppose and even Djokovic won the set.
"I felt that I have to beat him. I had many opportunities to win the first set but eventually lost it," said Fish. 29-year-old American failed to implement five break points in the first 4 games, while Djokovic takes advantage of his first chance to break and a 4-2 lead in the first set.
Then Serb pot and samples for a second serve of the opponent, quickly ending the first set 6-2. Mardy Fish is back in the match in the second set and two breaks to win 6-3.
In the decisive third set, Djokovic did not allow surprises and then are greeted with a 6-4 ninth trophy this year.
