Former world No. 1 Maria Sharapova (Russia) qualifies for third round of Open tennis in the UK.
The Russian, who is the tournament champion in 2004, won with 7:6 (7:4), 6:3 to 1:48 participating with "wild card" Laura Robson (GBR).
Sharapova trailing by 1-4 in the first set tiebreak after winning.
The Russian had no problems in the second set of games. Sharapova next opponent is Klara Zakopalova (Czech Republic).
Finalist in 2007 and number 9 in the scheme Marion Bartoli (France) beat Lourdes Dominguez Lino (Spain) with 4:6, 7:5, 6:2 and qualifies for third round.
Former No. 1 Svetlana Kuznetsova (Russia), number 12 in the scheme, fell in the third round after losing the 19th placed Yanina Wickmayer (Belgium), 6:4, 3:6, 4:6.
In the third round match Pervak Ksenia (Russia) side number 11 Andrea Petkovic (Germany), 6:4, 7:6 (7:2).
