Defending champion and world No 1 Rafael Nadal (Spain) started with a victory participation of the British Open in tennis. Nadal beat Michael Russell (USA) 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 for 1:58.
The Spaniard conceded the first set break, but the next game managed to get it back and end up losing the initiative. Nadal made a total of 7 broke into his opponent's serve, but Russell made 21 unforced errors.
World No. 1 seeks a third title of "Wimbledon" and 11th Grand Slam in his career.
In the second round rival Nadal will be the winner of the match between Anduhar Pablo (Spain) and Ryan Suiting (USA).
