Soderling qualify for quarterfinals30-05-2011 |
Finalist the last two years Robin Soderling (Sweden) qualified for the quarterfinals of the Open de France tennis.
Fifth-seeded Soderling beat the representative of the host Gilles Simon of 6:2, 6:3, 7:6 (5) after the 2:16 game. Swede dominated entirely in the first two sets, which won for just over an hour.
He took the first four games of the match, which proved sufficient for success in the first set. The second part began in equally, but then again 2:3 Soderling took seven consecutive games.
The match seemed resolved, but Simon managed to equalize for 4:4 in the third set, and then lead to things tiebreaker. It, however, the Swede again dominated. He drew with 4:1. In 2:6 the Frenchman managed to save three consecutive machbola, but no more forces.
Soderling beats placed 40th winning the match and conceded just one break.
So Swede will face No. 1 in the world and five-time champion Rafael Nadal (Spain) in search of revenge for the lost final last year.
Curiously, in 2009, namely Soderling ended Nadal's winning streak at Roland Garros in the fourth round but then lost the title match to Roger Federer (Switzerland).
