Sharapova qualifies for third round in France26-05-2011 |
Maria Sharapova won 11 straight games and qualified for the third round of the Open de France after beating 17-year-old representative of the hosts Carolyn Garcia with 3:6, 6:4, 6:0. Former world No 1 Russian met unexpected resistance from competing with the wild card Garcia, which involved only the second Grand Slam in his career. Sharapova lost the first set and trailing 3:6 to 1:4 in the second. Hence the Russian took control of the match and won 11 consecutive games and still fight for the trophy. "Garcia playing unbelievable in the first set and the first half of the second. I am glad that I managed to turn the match," said Sharapova.
