Discard qualifier Almagro in the first round24-05-2011 |
Last year's quarter-Nicolas Almagro (Spain) fell in the first round of Open tennis in France.
11th-seeded Almagro scored 18 aces but lost to qualifier Lukas Kubota (Poland) 6:3, 6:2, 6:7 (3), 6:7 (5), 4:6 after almost four hours of play.
The match started well for the Spaniard who, after 74 minutes on the court has already led to 2:0 sets, but 29-year-old Kubota came to a rare twist for the first time in his career to the second round at Roland Garros.
Pole reduce liability after success in the third set tiebreak. The fourth part Almagro served for the match but conceded a breakthrough, then Kubota took a second tiebreaker to even the score.
In the decisive fifth set, the two exchanged one break, then KUBOTA again won the submission of their opponents and ultimately came to success with a precise forehand rights in the tenth game.
Pole next rival will be Belok Carlos from Argentina, which deal with Bernard Tomic (Australia) with 7:5, 6:4, 6:2.
