Federer knocked out of Masters Series tournament in Rome13-05-2011 |
Roger Federer knocked out of the tournament on clay courts of the series "Masters of Rome with a prize fund 2.75 million dollars after the loss of 6:4, 6:7 (2) 6:7 (4) by Frenchman Richard Gasquet.
Third-seeded Swiss won the first set 6:4, but then conceded defeat in a dramatic tiebreaker the next two parts. Federer had eight wins in their last eight match against Richard Gasquet. The only French player to win against the Swiss was in 2005 in Monte Carlo.
After his loss in the third round in the Italian capital Federer does not rank among the best eight in the tournament in 2011.
Seeded 2 in the main draw Novak Djokovic record win number 34 this year. Djokovic prevailed with 6:4, 6:1 against Stanislas Wawrinka (Switzerland). Djokovic has a chance to oust Rafael Nadal in the first place in the world rankings.
