Baghdatis beat Del Potro for a place in third round

20-01-2011

Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis beat former No. 4 Juan Martin Del Potro 6-1, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in a match of second round of the Australian Open.
Both players had physical problems during the match that lasted 2 hours and 42 minutes. Physiotherapists take the court at the end of the second set to bind a bunch of problematic Del Potro, because he missed the entire 2010. In the next set, Baghdatis did had problems with the sole of his right leg and the match was again interrupted. Ultimately, though at times the Argentine reminded all of his formidable forehand, Baghdatis won the game deservedly. "I knew the match will be tough, but I'm used to. I always have a hard lot here. I played pretty well and am very happy," said finalist since 2007. "When you do not have injuries it's easier to keep your level. Year and a half now I stay healthy, to knock on wood, and I work very hard. Certainly takes a long time, as will be and Juan Martin," said Baghdatis. He will meet seeded 11 in the master plan Jurgen Melzer in the next round.
