The current champion Serena Williams won the long awaited American clash with Sloane Stephens, while Li Na recorded a brilliant victory to qualify for the women's 1/4-final of US Open.
Williams defeated 15th in the scheme Stephens with 6-4, 6-1 to reach the last eight stage, winning 8 of the last 9 games in the match with the young hope of the United States. Namely Serena eliminated Stevens in Austrelian Open 2013.
Williams will now play with the 18th in the scheme Carla Suarez Navarro, who surprised the German Angelique Kerber with 4-6, 6-3, 7-6.
