Venus Williams lost for the third consecutive year of US Open still in the second round. The Chinese girl Zheng Jie won against the two-time champion with 6-3 2-6 7-6 (7-5) for a little over three hours of play on the courts in New York. The match of Venus with Zheng was interrupted because of rain, and after the resumption of play, the Chinese tennis player managed to reach the victory.
Zheng will play against Carla Suarez-Navarro in the next stage.
Seeded three and five in the main draw Agnieszka Radwanska and Li Na had more success, and before the rain ended their matches in the round.
Li Na eliminate Sofia Arvidsson from Sweden with 6-2, 6-2 in just 64 minutes. In the next round the Chinese girl will be up against Laura Robson from Great Britain.
Radwanska defeat easily the Spanish Maria Teresa Toro-Flor with 6-0, 7-5, making only 10 unforced errors against 38 of her rival and got the win for 66 minutes. Radwanska will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the third round.
The meeting of Serena Williams with Galina Voskoboeva did not started because of rain.
