Rafael Nadal won for the eighth time in his last eight appearances championship trophy of the tournament in Barcelona, this time after a victory in the final match with 6:4, 6:3 against Nicolas Almagro.
Thus Nadal became the first player who win eight titles in two different tournaments (Monte Carlo and Barcelona) and in the open era of tennis only Guillermo Vilas can boast with such titles in the same tournament - the one in his home Buenos Aires.
As regards the total titles Nadal already has 54, 39 of which are on clay. By number of won tournaments only two red players have more - Thomas Muster is with 40, and Guillermo Vilas with 45, but it seems only a matter of time Rafa to head and this list.
